HDFC Bank Biz Black Metal Edition Credit Card: full review

The HDFC Biz Black Metal Edition is a premium business card for owners with a business income above ₹45 lakh. Its strengths are unlimited lounge access, a 2% forex markup, very low interest for an HDFC card and points on tax and GST payments. The headline 3.3% return only holds when points go to SmartBuy flights and hotels, so the card pays off when the business spends ₹7.5 lakh or more a year and the owner will use lounges, travel and milestone vouchers. For everyone else, the eligibility bar alone rules it out.

Pros and cons
Pros
✓ Unlimited lounge access in India and abroad with only one transaction a month needed
✓ A low 2% forex markup and a low 1.99% monthly interest rate, both well below HDFC's standard cards
✓ Government spends earn points, which HDFC's consumer cards exclude, and tax and GST payments earn 5X
✓ Useful business extras: GST-linked tracking, MakeMyTrip MyBiz fares, software discounts and a business insurance package
✓ Milestone vouchers add real value for businesses that put large spends on the card
Cons
✗ Very high eligibility: a business-income ITR above ₹45 lakh a year and an existing liability relationship with HDFC Bank, so most applicants will not qualify
✗ The ₹10,000 renewal fee needs ₹7.5 lakh of annual spend to waive, and the 3.3% headline earn rate only holds if points are redeemed on SmartBuy flights and hotels
✗ Redeeming as statement cashback pays only ₹0.30 per point, which cuts the base return to about 1%
✗ Fuel, rent, wallet, education and EMI spends earn no points, and grocery and utility earnings are capped at 2,000 points a month each
✗ HDFC's own pages disagree on whether the 5X rate is capped at 7,500 points per statement cycle, and its FAQ still lists an older welcome benefit, so confirm both with the bank
✗ No fuel surcharge waiver, and the card is for business-income earners rather than salaried applicants
