Reward point redemption ratio

The redemption ratio is the rate at which your accumulated reward points convert into actual rupee value when redeemed, commonly expressed as "1 RP = ₹X." This ratio varies significantly across cards, from as low as ₹0.07 per point on weaker programmes to ₹1 per point on the most generous ones, and it is one of the most important numbers for judging whether a card's headline reward rate is actually worth much in practice. A card advertising a high points-per-rupee rate can still deliver poor real value if its redemption ratio is weak, for example, the YES RESERV's 4:1 redemption ratio dilutes its otherwise strong 3% online spend rate.

Frequently asked questions
Yes, many cards offer a better ratio for flights, hotels, or specific catalogue items than for cash or generic vouchers, so it's worth checking the redemption options before assuming the base ratio applies everywhere.
Cashback is credited directly as rupees with no separate points step, so the concept of a redemption ratio doesn't apply: it's effectively always 1:1.
