Late payment fee

A late payment fee is charged when you miss your credit card's payment due date, even by a single day, and pay less than the minimum amount due by that date. Most Indian issuers apply this as a slab structure based on your outstanding balance rather than a flat amount, for example, a smaller fee for dues under ₹500 and progressively higher fees as the outstanding amount rises, often capped somewhere between ₹1,000 and ₹1,300 for the highest slabs. A missed payment can also be reported to credit bureaus, which affects your credit score independently of the fee itself.
